The Monkey King: Kimberly Wang

Kimberly Wang is a queer illustrator and cartoonist who graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design and is currently based in New York. Outside of working in the animation industry, they draw fantasy and speculative fiction comics with a surreal edge. They are the creator of the sci-fi corporate magical girls graphic novel, Of Thunder and Lightning, published by Silver Sprocket.

What does the Monkey King mean to you?

I watched the 1999 Journey to the West cartoon as a child so the Monkey King is a very nostalgic figure for me.

What’s one thing you hope viewers get from your work?

A love for drawing and line quality. And that taking the time to put pen to paper (in my case, screen) is worth the effort.

Who's your favorite superhero and why?

Daredevil. It was funny to learn how small Hell's Kitchen is in real life. Good for him.
